Marjean Gibson Crowther

Marjean Gibson Crowther, longtime resident of Bountiful, passed away peacefully while listening to her beloved Mormon Tabernacle Choir early in the morning of December 1, 2017.  Marjean turned 80 years old this June.  Born June 17, 1937 to George B. and Thelma Ward Gibson, Marjean always remained grateful for and tried to live in honor of her hard-working, loving parents.

Marjean had an idyllic childhood.  Her playground was the orchards and the Millstream Creek that ran near their family home right on Bountiful’s Main Street. Her childhood was filled with many dear friendships and the cherished closeness of cousins.  She learned to play the piano early and it was source of great joy for her whole life.  She played and performed in countless roadshows and church and school activities.

As a graduate of Davis High School, class of 1955, Marjean went on to study and graduate from the University of Utah with her teaching certificate in Business/ Shorthand and Type.  She enjoyed many teaching opportunities in both Utah and Idaho.  She loved teaching, and her students.  In 1960, she was called to serve in the North Central States Mission for the LDS church. She served much of her mission in her beloved Canada.  Marjean’s mission and the relationships that resulted were a treasured lifelong blessing.

A June bride, Marjean married her cherished eternal companion Wilford Penn Crowther in the Salt Lake Temple in 1970.  Even beyond Wilford’s early passing in 2003 they were faithful and loving partners in the raising of their family and the building up of the Lord’s Kingdom.

Marjean worked at various locations using her great business and secretarial skills.  Most dear to her heart were the years that she worked at the LDS Church Offices, especially in the Church Historical Department where she worked until her retirement in 2002. She had a passion for church and family history work.  Music remained a major love her entire life, especially music of faith and devotion.  She loved playing the organ and the piano for church functions, including countless funerals, and one of her most loved opportunities was being a called organist for both the Bountiful and Salt Lake Temples.

Marjean’s life was full of service to others and to her family.  She served in various callings in the LDS church, but her life was full of quiet acts of service for her neighbors, and her friends.  As a Grandma, you could find her actively playing with her grandchildren.  They felt adored by her.  A hard worker, you could also find her mowing her lawn, working in her garden, or shoveling snow even until her latest years.

Marjean is survived in death by her devoted three children, Trina (Troy) Garlick, Timothy (Diane) Crowther, and Todd (Mikael) Crowther and her loving grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents (George and Thelma Gibson), husband (Wilford Crowther) sister (Betty Rae Gibson) and brother and sister-in-law (Rodney and Ramona Gibson).

Marjean will be missed by many, and her example of faithful, loving service will be long remembered.

A viewing will be held Friday, Dec 8, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec 9 at 1:30 pm at the Bountiful 2nd Ward, 650 S 200 E, with a viewing from 12:15–1:15 pm at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Marjean and her family would be honored to have donations go to any of the LDS Charities or Humanitarian Aid Fund.
