Marjorie Edwards Carlson, 94, returned to her heavenly home on January 30, 2016. She passed away while surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff at Welcome Home care center in Bountiful, Utah.
Marjorie was born on May 20, 1921 in Provo, Utah to her parents, Albert and Ophelia Edwards. She grew up in Provo, was valedictorian of her high school, and earned a degree in Nutrition from BYU. She was a devout member the LDS faith.
She often worked her summers in Bear Lake while staying with family. It was there she met the love of her life, Ernest Grant Carlson. They were soon married and later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. During World War II the young couple traveled around the country to the various cities where Grant was stationed in his US Navy service as an underwater welder. They finally settled in Centerville, Utah where Marjorie spent the majority of her life. She gave birth to three beautiful children and continued working at her 20-year career as an educator at Bountiful High School. In 1989 her husband died early in life from a rare illness. After his death Marjorie cultivated a life filled with service, family, and her many varied interests which included sewing, cooking, nutrition, the performing arts, and travel. She loved education and passed this legacy on to her grandchildren by inspiring a love of learning and donating money for their college education.
Family was very important to Marjorie. Every year her family united on her birthday and celebrated in her honor. She is survived by two children, Susan Darger and Ernest Carlson, 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Thais DeGrey, and one grandchild, Josh Carlson.
Marjorie will be buried in the Logan Cemetery next to her beloved husband. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, Feb 8th at 9:00-10:30 A.M. at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful. A burial ceremony will take place at the Logan Cemetery at 3:00 P.M. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this amazing woman.
