Marjorie Ann Petty Pehrson passed away peacefully September 23, 2015 in her sleep incident to old age in Bountiful, Utah. She was born October 15, 1925 in Nephi, Utah the eldest of two daughters to Bryan J and Gladys (Garrett) Petty. At the age of four, her family moved to Cedar City where she attended public schools; her senior year of high school the family moved to Provo.
Following high school she attended and graduated from BYU in 1947 with a degree in accounting and business administration; she also played the cello in the university orchestra. While attending BYU during the war years, she met her soul-mate Lester O. Pehrson who was home on furlough and they started dating and were subsequently married November 27, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They initially lived in Provo where their first son Brent was born, and then moved to Rose Park in 1950 where their two daughters Leslie and Carol were born.
In 1959 Marj enrolled at the University of Utah, having a passion to become an elementary school teacher, and earned her teaching certificate and began her teaching career at Onequa Elementary in Salt Lake City. In 1965, the family moved to North Salt Lake where she taught second and first grades at Boulton Elementary; she retired after a fulfilling teaching career of 27 years.
Marj served in many church callings in the Primary and MIA and stake Relief Society. She and Les served two missions: England Manchester 1988-90 and Nigeria Enugu 1993-94. They served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Temple following its dedication in 1995 for eight years. Marj was actively involved in Family Indexing for over 15 years. She was the faithful wife of her bishop husband for nine years and was his transcriptionist for patriarchal blessings.
Marj was preceded in death by her parents and daughter-in-law Rhea Pehrson . She is survived by her husband of 68 years, sister Marilyn McFarland, son Brent, daughters Leslie (Randy) Reese and Carol (Douglas) Nielsen, ten grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Orchard 5th Ward, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful, where a viewing will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
