Marlow Burt Burningham

Marlow Burt Burningham died Feb 2, 2021 in Farmington, Utah. He was born in Bountiful, Utah on  March 19, 1935 to Ida Burt Burningham and Marlow Garrett Burningham. He lived his entire life in Bountiful except for the last 5 years when he lived in Dallas with his daughter. As a boy, his family had a farm and grew produce that supplied many  SLC restaurants. Their sign said “Burningham Cantaloupes Sweetest around.” He served 22 years in the Utah Air National Guard as a flight engineer. He retired as a captain from the Bountiful City Fire Department after 28 years. He was proud of his days as  a firefighter. He was head of maintenance for Husky Oil and could literally fix ANYTHING. The last ten years of his life He battled three kinds of cancer.

On January 15, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, but he always said his real anniversary was when they were  later sealed in the SLC temple. They had five children. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many leadership positions. He especially loved serving as Branch President at Legacy House in Bountiful. He loved serving others.

Burt was not afraid to cry, loved animals, and loved teasing his kids. He even started a Christmas tradition of green eggs and ham; as an idea he got from the Dr. Seuss book. He liked to make pancakes for his grandkids in the shape of the first letter of their name.

He and Carolyn traveled extensively with their close group of friends. Dad loved music and the Tabernacle Choir. He LOVED to cook. When he had his bone marrow transplant he was sick in bed for weeks. He watched cooking shows, and it became his passion. He would try anything. He was a good dad and an honest and moral man and taught us how to work hard. He was quirky and always had 100 unfinished projects.

He shared a special bond with his sister, Carol. They went through a lot together when their dad was killed in the line of duty fighting in a house fire when Burt was 16 and Carol was 17. We all regretted that they couldn’t spend more time together due to Covid restrictions when he came back to Utah.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Simillion, children: Laurel Beazer (Allan), Grant (Kay), Alan (Debra), & Tyler (Amber), 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, and many cousins and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Marlynn (John) Schmidt, & a granddaughter, Chelsea.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful at 2 pm. There will be a viewing 6-8 pm Tuesday, February 9, 2021.
