Martin was born to Martin Wilhelm Seifert and Myrtle Leora Wayman in Bountiful, Utah, along with his twin sister Myrtle Ann on May 23, 1933. He had two older sisters, Lorine and Beth and a younger brother Lee.
His family moved to Salt Lake City when he was twelve, and at sixteen he met his future wife Marilyn Bytheway. They graduated from South High School together and married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 22, 1953. They moved back to Bountiful where they raised their family.
Martin retired from the Flying J oil refinery and he and Marilyn were called on a Utah Provo mission to The Cove Fort Historic site for the LDS church. Later they served a stake mission in Cody, Wyoming. Martin and Marilyn also served as temple workers in the Bountiful, Utah temple.
Martin had a talent for growing a great garden and sharing the produce with family and friends.
He was talented at building. He drew his own plans for a cabin which he built out of logs and shared with his family or anyone who wanted to spend some time in the mountains, which he loved.
Many people were the recipient of a log bench which he enjoyed making, or little gadgets he made for entertainment.
He loved to work with the youth in the ward and went on many campouts and river trips. He was a good neighbor and was always willing to give service.
