Bountiful, Utah – Marva Dawn Fenn, our loving, caring, amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, returned to our loving Heavenly Father on November 13, 2023, in Bountiful, Utah, at age 89. She was born July 14, 1934, to LaVon R. Atwood and Hazel Bernece Miles.
Marva was born in Mt. Emmons, Utah, Duchesne County, in the Uinta Basin. She grew up working hard on the farm where she learned the values of hard work and self-reliance. The values and integrity she learned in her early years stayed with her for the rest of her life. She exemplified them in all she did.
Her mother had this to say about her:
“On 14 1934 July our daughter, Marva Dawn, was born. We had Dr. Miles come to Mother Atwood’s house to deliver her. Marva has always been a comfort to us. She was always a hard worker and helped with the children and wasn’t any worry to us. She always wanted to do what was right: she seems to have such a strong testimony and is very diligent in her family and church. She is the “Rock of Gibraltar” and we love her very much.”
Marva lived in Mt. Emmons until she was about 10 years old. From there the family moved to Bluebell, Utah, where she lived until she was married. After graduating high school, she went to beauty school for a short time. After beauty school, she went to work at Marion’s Café in Roosevelt, Utah. It was while working at the café that she met the love of her life, Myrlin Dwayne Fenn. They dated briefly, and six weeks later they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17, 1953. They chose the covenant path and stayed true to their covenants together here on earth for 69 years and 8 months until Myrlin passed away on November 17, 2022. Their example is priceless to their posterity.
Mom and Dad lived in several locations while raising their family, eventually settling in Bountiful, Utah, where they lived from 1971 until 2022. Many fond family memories, family gatherings and choice experiences were created there. Mom had a charitable spirit. She loved to bake brownies and bread and take them to the neighbors. She touched many lives for good in her lifetime, not because she was asked or assigned to do so, but because she loved to serve others. Her life’s example is a great legacy to her children and anyone who knew her.
Marva is a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has answered the call to serve in several church callings: Relief Society Presidency, Teacher, in the Primary and Relief Society and Sunday School, Cub Scout leader, Compassionate Service leader, and many others. She served faithfully for two years with her husband, Myrlin, in the Micronesia Guam Mission from July 1998 to June 2000. We will miss her deeply but we rejoice in the truth that, because of her faith and enduring to the end in the Lord, she is with her eternal companion in a place of peace continuing to do good works in the Lord’s way.
She is survived by her children: Lance, Wade, Ron, Wes, and Lisa; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mom and Dad love their posterity!! She is also survived by her sisters: Carma and Gloria, and her brother David.
She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVon R. Atwood and Hazel Bernece Miles, brothers and sisters: Clifton LaVon, Eloyce, Marolyn and Paul.
