Mary Eliza Astle Bair

October 12, 1918 — March 17, 2017

Mary Eliza Astle Bair, 98, died 17 Mar 2017 at the home of her daughter. She was born 12 Oct 1918 in Montpelier, ID to William L. Astle and Mary Stocker. She moved to the Sacramento area at about 5 years of age, eventually settling in Fair Oaks, CA with her parents. Mary served an LDS mission in the East Central States Mission and upon returning, married Evan Clyde Bair in the Salt Lake City Temple on 11 Dec 1942. Mary and Evan raised all of their children on a two acre plot in Fair Oaks. Mary lived in the same house for 61 years, where she was able to love and serve her neighbors and community. In 2006, she moved to Farmington, UT to live closer to her youngest daughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers Franklin, Melvin, and Maylon; sister Mae McIntyre; brothers and sisters-in-law Bea Astle, Marion Astle, Pru Astle, and Ben McIntyre; daughter-in-law Mary Bair; grandson Andrew Tolman; and several great grandbabies.

She is survived by her youngest sister Arlene Oakden (Don) and her brothers, Raynor Astle (Gerri), Joe Astle (Jean), Henry Astle (Rosalind), Delbert Astle (Marsha), Wayne Astle (Irma), and sisters-in-law Kathy Astle and Louise Astle. She is also survived by her children: Evan Bair (Pam), Ron Bair (Bev), Jack Bair (Elia), Lila Bohman (Jerard), Roy Bair (Gail), Earle Bair (Connie), Beverly Bair, Daryl Bair (Delina), Danny Bair (Lori), and Beryl Tolman (Jeff) and 62 grandchildren, 139 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Mary was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is remembered for sharing her strong testimony and love of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was also well known for her love of crocheting and quilting, of which many of her friends and family members were grateful recipients. She also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers; and spent many hours serving and helping those around her. 

The viewing will be at the Farmington Russon Mortuary (1941 N. Main St.) on Thursday, 23 Mar 2017 from 6-8 PM. An additional viewing will be held on Friday, 24 Mar 2017 from 9:30-10:30 AM followed by the funeral services at 11 AM at the Farmington South Stake Center (695 S 200 E.) Interment – Alpine City Cemetery.
