Mary Evelyn Wilson Meador, 87 years old, our sweet mother, grandmother and great grandmother, returned to her Heavenly home February 28 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born May 9, 1925, in Covington, Georgia, to Mary and Charlie Wilson, the youngest of three girls. She was raised in Covington, GA, where she attended Covington High and the Atlanta Business School. Mary married her sweetheart, James Thompson Meador September 9, 1948.
Mary, Jim and their two children, Michael and Beth, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1961. Mary served in many positions in the church including Relief Society President, various teaching positions, and served for several years in the Atlanta Temple. She supported her husband as he served in the church in many positions as well, including as Branch president and Bishop. Mary was happiest when she was serving others. She has always been the perfect example of unconditional love and compassionate service with a wonderful, warm sense of humor. Her smile could warm anyone’s heart.
Her professional life included being the executive secretary to the presidents of Lever Brothers, Inc and Tucker Wayne Corporation, and secretary to the Director of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare Region IV, Atlanta, GA. Her interests included painting, needle work, and she enjoyed creating many arts and crafts. Mary loved working with the Girl Scouts of America and helping girls develop into capable, responsible young women. She had a great love for her many pets, especially her cat Marble.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters (Charlie Mae Bailey and Francis Carter) and her devoted husband, Jim. She is survived by her children, Michael G. Meador, Sr. and his wife Marsha, McAlpin, Fla., Beth Meador Nordfors and her husband Richard, Bountiful, UT, nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013, 3:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit on Saturday prior to the service 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington, Georgia.
