Mary Jean Frodsham

June 11, 1935 — September 4, 2024

A true Lady in every sense of the word has returned to her Father in Heaven’s presence. During her time in mortality she was a precious gift to all who knew or associated with her. We love and appreciate her tremendously.

Born June 11, 1935 to Joseph F. and Jane Farmer Cartwright in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was raised in Draper, Utah with her siblings; sister (Sue) Susan Elizabeth Creasy of Utah and brother (Jim) James Farmer Cartwright of Hawaii.

Mary Jean received her secondary education at Jordan High School as a true Beetdigger. After graduating she attended BYU Provo where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with an additional teaching certificate. Later in life she returned to BYU Provo and studied Business. She succeeded in graduating there with a Masters of Business (MBA) and has the distinction of being the first female in the school’s history to do so. She was a trailblazer for countless female students who have since followed her footsteps.

Continuing with her trailblazing and refined skills at collaboration Mary Jean became a lifelong teacher. Locally she taught at the Jordan School District. Following, she became a worldwide teacher and traveler while she taught elementary children at US Military Bases throughout the world. Specifically, she enlightened young minds in both Germany, and Japan. She traveled extensively to many neighboring countries while there. Later she taught her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Many credit her with their successes later in their own lives.

Following her return to Utah from teaching overseas, she secured employment at ZCMI where she met her eternal companion Joseph A. Frodsham. They were married, sealed for time and eternity, on June 25, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple, Utah. They remained a close and loving couple throughout their lives where they served many in their communities.

Mary Jean was a life long devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served a two year mission in the south western spanish speaking states. There she used her teaching talent and collaboration skills to bring the Lords Gospel to the people. She served a second mission in New York, NY (North, Spanish Speaking) with her loving husband Joe later in life. There they, among many other accomplishments, helped to bring about the opening of the Manhattan Temple, NY. Throughout her life she held many church callings giving tremendous service. Primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, YW president, RS president, Primary presidency, and Bountiful Temple ordinance worker for several years to name a few. Truely a life long serving member of the Lord’s workforce. Surely when she again faced her Savior Jesus Christ, and God His Father, they told her “Well done, true and faithful daughter.

”Despite these impressive accomplishments, Mary Jean would likely hold the family she and Joe created and loved together as her highest. She has a son Paul who was still born in 1974. A daughter (Missy) Mary Suzane (Dan) Veili, Independence, Kansas. In addition she was an incredible step mother to Joesph’s three daughters from a previous marriage, Lisa (Ken) Norwick of Sylvan Lake, Michigan. Elizabeth deceased (Jim) Snyder of Kamas, Utah. Cinthia Austin Davis of Fruit Heights, Utah. From this family who she accepted wholeheartedly she was rewarded with a large posterity of grand and great grandchildren. All of them having fond loving memories of Grandma Mary Jean teaching them. From life value lessons, to the love of reading, to her annual Christmas Party plays complete with costumes, a reading of the Christmas Story, and many, many, more.
