Mary Ellen Higley Kingery

Mary passed away peacefully at her St. George home on March 4, 2024.

Mary was born on May 4^th, 1951, in Tooele, UT, to parents Armand (Hammer) and Nancy Higley. A few years later they moved to Bountiful, Utah. Mary attended Stoker Elementary, Bountiful Jr High, Bountiful High and Weber State for a short time.

On New Years Eve 1969 she went on a blind date where she met her future husband, David Kingery. They hit it off immediately and were engaged sixteen days later. Mary and Dave were married on June 22,1970. In 1973 they had their first son Richard, in 1978 a second son Daniel.

Mary and Dave enjoyed travelling and the outdoors. Two of her favorite trips were a sixteen-day trip to French Polynesia and a sixteen-day cruise from Florida to California by way of the Panama Canal. Mary and Dave made many trips to Hawaii over the years. In 1978 they bought a small ranch in Summit County where they spent many enjoyable weekends.

In 2003 they bought their first St. George home followed by another one in 2006. After they were both retired, they enjoyed spending the winter months there.

Mary was diagnosed in 1999 with MS. Mary fought the disease bravely and kept her spirits up. The last couple of years have been very hard for her.

Mary is survived by her husband Dave, sons Richard (Kim), Daniel (Codie) and Tobin, brothers Steven Higley (Connie), John Higley (Jan), James Higley (Stephanie). Granddaughters Rachel and Shaelyn Kingery and great granddaughter Aurora Cummings. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

It was Mary’s wish that there wouldn’t be any services held following her death. She will be cremated, and her ashes will stay with Dave. In lieu of flowers a donation to the MS Society would be appreciated.
