Mary Moncur Ord

December 22, 1943 — May 18, 2017

Mary Moncur Ord passed away, Thursday May 18, 2017 surrounded by her family after a short illness in Bountiful, Utah at the Lakeview Hospital. Mary was born on December 22, 1943 in Lovell, Wyoming and was the 3rd of 4 children to Lucile and Earl (Casey) Moncur.  She spent many of her early years in in Huron, South Dakota and Laramie, Wyoming. She also lived in Ithaca, New York while her father attended Cornell. When she was a teenager she spent 2 years in Afghanistan because of her father’s work. During that time she attended a boarding school in India.  She returned to Wyoming and graduated from Laramie High School.  While attending Brigham Young University, she met the love of her life, Russell Jon Ord, and they were married shortly thereafter in the Salt Lake Temple.  After graduating from BYU with her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary Education, she taught 2nd grade at the Lafayette School in Salt Lake City,  while Jon attended medical school.  Their first daughter, Steffanie, was born in Murray and Mary cherished and adored her.  After completing Medical School, they moved to Chicago to complete a medical residency. Mary taught as a substitute teacher in the Chicago schools. She had two children born in Chicago, Jennifer and Andrew. Jon was offered a position at the Salt Lake Clinic and they moved back to Salt Lake City where Emmylou and Melissa were born.  Through the LDS Indian Exchange Program, Marieda Benn became part of their family.  They finally moved to Bountiful where they raised their family.

Mary was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She has served in many church callings. In Chicago, Ill. she was Relief Society President.  She was Primary President in the Rosecrest Ward in Salt Lake City, and loved working in the Primary in the Bountiful 51st Ward.  She also spent many years working with the South Davis Special Needs Mutual and always loved to see her daughter Jennifer perform in the annual production.  

She loved to travel!  She has been all the way around the world. Her favorite place to travel was Hawaii.  She was a strong supporter of her family. She loved the Tippets family reunions. She loved going to her grandchildren’s different activities.  Sport games, dance recitals, band concerts, and plays she was always their biggest fan!

Mary is survived by her husband, Jon Ord, her daughters, Steffanie Wigren (Brent), Jennifer Ord, Emmylou Vandertoolen (Will), Melissa Reynolds (Jeff), and her son Andrew Ord (Becky). Seven grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, Earl Moncur and her mother, Lucile Tippets Moncur.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26th at LDS Chapel on 455 S 1200 East, Bountiful.  A Greeting line will be held Thursday, May 25th at Russon Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful from 6 – 8 p.m. and at the LDS chapel from 10 – 10:45 am prior to the service. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery.
