Mary Olive Snarr Maddox 1921-2011

Mary Olive Snarr Maddox (Mary O) passed away May 13, 2011 in Highland, UT of causes incident to age. Born Oct. 4, 1921 near Astoria, OR, she was adopted by William John Snarr and Myrtle Flora Clearwater Snarr and raised in Portland, OR. She was an only child, adored by her parents. Mary Olive was an accomplished pianist and seamstress in high school and college and won many awards for both. She graduated in Home Economics from Oregon State College in 1943. She worked as a state extension agent and traveled across Oregon. She met Dale LaVerne Maddox in a chemistry class at OSC. During World War II, Dale and Mary Olive joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and were married May 2, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They raised nine children in Corvallis, OR where they lived for 50 years. She served in many church and community capacities, including Relief Society president, 4-H leader, and Cub Scout leader, receiving the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America. She loved serving others and spending time with her family and friends. She served three missions for the LDS Church with her husband to Minneapolis, MN; Toronto, Canada; and Honolulu, HI. Survived by children Becky, Brigham City, UT; Liz Nelson (Mike), McCammon, ID; Carol Lowell (Kevin), Bountiful, UT; Mary Jentzsch (Mathew), West Jordan, UT; John (Linda), Orem, UT; Kathy Nielson (Rob), Ephraim, UT; Matthew (Julie), American Fork, UT; Kim Heath (Bruce), Richland, WA; Sam (Jen), Lewiston, UT. Also survived by 43 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, most of whom have been at her side over the last week and a half. Preceded in death by her husband and parents. Funeral services will be held Tuesday May 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Bountiful 41st ward chapel, 165 S. 1000 E. Bountiful, UT. Family and friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to services. Also, thank you to all the staff at Ashford Memory Care and Sunbrook hospice for their tender kindness in caring for Mother.
