Mary Lois Thomas 1912-2011

Our beloved matriarch, Mary Lois Thomas, died peacefully at home on June 1, 2011. Lois was born on March 14, 1912 in Driggs, Idaho to Henry Alonzo and Lucy Wood Andrews. She cherished her Teton heritage and we imagine her climbing atop Table Rock mountain today. She married William Ferrel Thomas in the Salt Lake Temple on October 11, 1940, who preceded her in death in 2003. Survived by children: Sharon (Mark) Stoner, Ferrel (Vivia) Thomas, Jr., Tamra (Mark) Lyman, Kyle Thomas, Kayleen Thomas, and Douglas Thomas, 26 grandchildren, and 64 great grandchildren. Lois loved the Savior and followed His example through service to family, friends, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society president and missons to the East Central States, Washington, D.C., and a guide on Temple Square . This humble woman possessed many talents but she considered her ability to appreciate the talents of others and the beauties of the world as her greatest talent. She had a passion for learning as evidenced by continual reading, quoting poetry, love of travel, games, and puzzles. Her handiwork: quilts, cross-stitching, temple altar cloths, cards and letters are treasured keepsakes. She leaves a rich legacy of hard work and perseverance. She and her husband built their family home on a ‘peach orchard’ in Bountiful. Their study groups and missionary friends demanded an annual ‘dinner’ of fresh peaches and cream with homemade bread. After raising her family she worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell until her retirement. Her hands were continually busy in service. Her sense of humor and wit brightened many lives. Many people called her a Noble and Great Lady. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at the Orchard 2nd Ward, 3707 South 800 West in Bountiful under the direction of Russon Brothers Mortuary. There will be a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. The family appreciates Kayleen and the many friends who have loved and given service to her throughout the years. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com.
