March 1, 1979 – April 19, 2016

Bountiful, Utah – Our beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Matthew James Tanner, passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2016 at his home in Bountiful, Utah.

Matt was born March 1, 1979 in Salt Lake City, the son of Steven Maurice and Suzanne Sheffield Tanner.   He was the fifth of their six children.  Matt grew up in Bountiful and attended Leo J. Muir Elementary School, Mueller Park Jr. High, and Bountiful High School.

Matthew was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Matthew met his wife, Kristy Dawn Swallow Tanner, at his sister’s wedding. Matt and Kristy were married on July 1, 2011 in Spanish Fork, Utah.

Matt had the brightest smile, was kind-hearted, and hard-working. He had a great love for animals and nature. He loved being outdoors and as a youth he enjoyed going on Scouting hikes and campouts.

Matt also loved working with his hands. For a time he worked as a stone mason. The last several years he worked for Install-A-Post, installing and removing real estate signs. He eventually became the owner of the company.

Matt enjoyed sports, particularly football and basketball.  His favorite teams were the University of Utah Utes, the Denver Broncos, and the Utah Jazz. 

Matt is survived by his wife, Kristy; his parents of Bountiful; his siblings, Michelle (Rich) Lakin, Stansbury Park, Utah; Valerie (Curtis) Taylor, Stansbury Park, Utah; Brian (Hope) Tanner, Layton Utah; Gregg Tanner, Bountiful, Utah; Angie (Nick) Swallow, Stansbury Park, Utah.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents and an uncle.

Viewings will be held on Sunday evening, April 24, 2016 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah and on Monday, April 25th prior to the funeral, at the church, from 10:45-11:45 a.m. The funeral will be at 12:00 Noon in the Bountiful 21st Ward Chapel at 115 E. Wicker Lane (1900 S. Orchard Dr.), Bountiful, Utah. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
