Maureen Allred

March 11, 1949 — December 10, 2015

Maureen Massey Allred, age 66, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2015 surrounded by those she loved. Her unexpected passing came as a result from complications following surgery.
Maureen was incredibly creative and loved sewing, quilting, and scrapbooking. She spent many hours creating beautiful quilts or putting together scrapbooks of her beloved family. She knew how to make simple things beautiful, and beautiful things simple. She was a master at gathering her family together for holidays, birthday parties, or any other reason she could invent. She possessed so many talents, but her greatest talent was that of making people feel at home and loved in her presence. She welcomed all into her family and made sure each felt valued and welcome.
Maureen found joy in simple things. She loved wheat bread with butter and honey, Diet Coke, Rocky Road ice cream, TJ Maxx, and everything from Costco. She loved reading and could often be found curled up in the corner of her couch reading a book, or in her backyard enjoying the beautiful flowers she cheerfully planted every spring. She had also just learned to text on her phone, which was such an accomplishment for her and such a relief for the rest of us!
Maureen loved every holiday, but her favorite was definitely Christmas. She made Christmas magical for her family as she decked the halls with beautiful decorations on both the inside and outside of her home and filled her home and our lives with wonderful sights and smells of the season. The Christmas Eve family party easily became a favorite tradition for all, complete with beautifully wrapped gifts, wonderful food, and always a reenactment of the Nativity by her grandchildren.
Maureen had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and served faithfully and quietly in whatever calling was issued to her, whether she felt capable or not. She particularly loved working with the Activity Day girls in her ward and was currently serving in her ward Relief Society presidency. She was an example of what she believed in the way she lived her everyday life, quietly serving her family and those around her.
Maureen leaves behind a family who loves her and misses her dearly: Her husband, Bob, of nearly 47 years, her sons Mike (Melinda), Tony (Kathy), Mark (Krista) and Nate, and her daughters, Andrea and Emily, as well as 18 adoring grandkids whose lives will not be the same without Grandma Maureen. She leaves behind a beautiful sister Elynn (Don) Halterman, and four brothers, Allen (Denise) Massey, Dennis (Kim) Massey, JD (Denise) Massey, and Ira Dell (Lori) Massey. Maureen's "Welcoming Committee" in Heaven consisted of her mother Florence and her big brother Duane, both of whom we know she was very excited to see.
Friends may visit the family on Monday, December 14 from 6-8 PM at the LDS chapel at 1350 N 650 E in Bountiful, and again on Tuesday, December 15 from 9:30-10:30 AM. Funeral services will immediately follow at 11 AM at the same location. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
We love you, Maureen. And although we don't understand why you were taken from us so early, we know that faith in God includes faith in His timing. We look forward to feeling your presence and love as you watch over us from the other side.
