Mavanee King Nelson, age 83, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family and her sweetheart of 65 years, Karl. Mavanee was born June 30, 1934 in Richfield, Utah to Lewis Clyde King and Muriel Nielsen.
Mavanee met her handsome and hard-working future husband, Karl Allred Nelson at Moroni High School. They were high school sweethearts and were married on February 14, 1952 and were later sealed in the Bountiful Temple. Karl and Mavanee spent the first few years of their marriage moving for Karl's work as a crane operator. Eventually, they purchased their first and permanent home in Bountiful, Utah. Karl and Mav were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Karla, Earlene, and Michelle. Mavanee took great pride in raising her girls and creating traditions and memories for and with her family. She knew the value of hard work and passed this on to her children and grandchildren.
Mavanee loved serving others and working in compassionate service. She was always preparing good meals and not only delivered them, but spent time conversating and being a listening ear. She especially enjoyed taking care of older friends and ward members that needed some tender loving care. Mavanee also served in the primary. She was dedicated in her service callings and went above and beyond in showing her love and concern.
Mavanee was talented with her knitting and crocheting. All of her children and grandchildren were blessed with handcrafted doilies, slippers, and the highly anticipated afghan when newly married. She was an avid reader and regular customer at the book store on Main Street. All of her family experienced the peace of her wooden swing and back patio visits. We also enjoyed our visits to the "Cave" in Monticello where there were games, four -wheeler rides, and good food.
Mavanee, like her name, was unique and beautiful. She had a heart-warming smile, was humble, and enjoyed the simple things life has to offer. This gift she shared with others and her posterity is grateful for the example she set and the sacrifices she made for those around her.
In death, Mavanee is reunited with her parents, 2 brothers (Buddy King and Chester Worthing) and son-in-law (Randy). We know there is joy and warm embraces going on in heaven. Mavanee is celebrated and remembered by her husband, Karl, 3 daughters Karla (Jerome) Johnson, Michelle (Timothy) Morley, and Earlene (Randy) Dunn, 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild expected in December, and her sister, Sherry Mays.
A viewing will be held Sunday Oct. 22 2017 from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main in Bountiful. Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 23 at 11 am at Russon Brothers Mortuary with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 am. In lieu of flowers, perform an act of compassionate service in the honor and spirit of Mavanee.
