Mavin Stuart Campbell

August 5, 1937 — March 15, 2025

BOUNTIFUL – Mavin Stuart Campbell, 87, of Bountiful escaped the gravitational pull of the earth and went to the big car lot in the sky. He died in his home (Legacy House of Bountiful) approximately 10 p.m. March 15th, 2025.

Born August 5, 1937, in Tropic, Utah, son of Merlin Campbell and Manila (Bybee) Campbell. He married June Katherine (Pirente) on September 25, 1965. He married Ila Jean (Pohar) on December 18, 1971; and married Karen Pearson-Campbell on December 23, 1998.

Mavin was a graduate of Grantsville HS, on the football team, and with his twin sister, Mavis, was part of the cheerleading squad where the twins were a big hit in the community. This included swing dancing and singing a duet of “Mr. Sandman” in a talent show.

Mavin enlisted and served in the Army Reserves.

In 1960, he served an Eastern Canadian mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints under Mission President Thomas S. Monson. One of his favorite stories of his mission included crossing into the United States for Zone conferences. The border guards would ask, “Do you have anything to declare?” He would respond, “Yes, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true!”

He served the church in many capacities including as a nursery leader where the children would take turns jumping into his arms while he flew them around the room.

After returning from his LDS mission in Toronto, Canada, Mavin spent 50 years selling automobiles. The success he enjoyed in every dealership was always the top quality. Mavin’s unique approach to car sales earned him the moniker of “Ravin Mavin.” He often went the extra mile for his clients. Using his unique talents, he got the job done. One couple was looking at two different car models, one larger than the other, but was concerned the larger car would not fit in their garage. Mavin went to their house, cleaned out their garage, and sold them the larger vehicle. In 1985, he received commendation as one of the top 50 Chrysler Salesmen in the nation. Mavin Campbell was the most unforgettable person to meet. Like him or not, he left an indelible impression on everyone.

Mavin’s greatest gift was keeping in touch with family; something he had learned from his own father Merlin Campbell. Each weekend, he would make the rounds by phone calls or personal visits, catching up with aunts, uncles, cousins, and making memories with each.

For several years, Mavin and Karen retired to lovely St. George, Utah. He and Karen parented their niece Camille Peterson for 11 years following the death of Cami’s mother. In nearby Springdale, UT, the Gateway to Zions National Park, Mavin worked at the Rock Shop. As manager, he enjoyed engaging with people from across the globe and enthusiastically shared his knowledge of the area and brought home unique rock jewelry to share with Karen and Cami. Mavin and Karen loved their days in southern Utah.

Survived by his wife Karen Pearson-Campbell, brother Albert McCoy Campbell (Doris Evans), son Stuart M Campbell (Margie Perrin), former daughter-in-law Beth Campbell Birch), son Ryan Lee Campbell (Jeannette Delavan); stepchildren Stacey Steed, Linnea Belnap (Kirk), Kristin Morgan (Stacey), Gregg Pearson, Amy Cate (Kerby); former daughter-in-law Joy Pearson; niece Camille Peterson; 32 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Predeceased by parents Merlin Campbell and Manila (Bybee); Sisters Faye Campbell Taylor (Thomas), Mavis Campbell Madsen (J.R.); brothers Kay Campbell, and Ralph Campbell; son Justin Paul Campbell.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Legacy House of Bountiful and Inspiration Hospice who took such loving care of Mavin.
