Max Brent Tennant of Farmington, Utah peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, June 17th. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Max Tennant and Ruth Lavena Brackett on December 6, 1939, Brent was the first of 11 children, 9 girls and 2 boys. Brent served a mission to the Northwestern States, and after completing his mission, married Jody Wood in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 25, 1967 where they were sealed for time and all eternity. Their marriage endured on this earth for nearly 50 years. Together they raised 7 children (5 boys and 2 girls) in Farmington, Utah where they have resided for the past 45 years. He was a faithful, diligent servant of the Lord throughout his life and willingly served in many capacities such as Bishop of the Salt Lake 19th Ward, Stake and Ward Young Men’s President, High Councilor, Temple Worker, and Scout Master. For 28 years he was employed by Moore Business Forms and upon retirement purchased Farmington Post and Print which he ran until his health failed in 2001. Brent believed in the community of Farmington and relished the opportunities he had to volunteer as a T-Ball coach for his sons’ teams, and serve as a City Councilman.
Brent was no stranger to hard work as he accepted a difficult assignment while serving as a High Councilor of creating a park for the Farmington Stake in West Farmington. He worked tirelessly with many volunteers to clear the field, install the sod, sprinklers, and build a pavilion that would serve as a gathering spot for many Stake activities. His hard work also translated to the home that he and Jody purchased in Farmington. He along with his sons and volunteers that would stop by built the rock walls that surround their yard from the many rocks readily found in the yard in undesirable locations.
Brent felt that one of the best ways to influence his children was to help them see that they could “do hard things.” The storied backpacking, camping and fishing trips with his five sons, members of the Farmington 5th Ward, and young men in the Scout Troop are a testament to the value of achieving hard things that continues to shape the lives of those that were lucky enough to participate.
He will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity to others, especially those who were widowed and fatherless. Several of the widows from the 19th ward where he served as bishop gifted Brent and Jody a handmade, hand-quilted, queen-size quilt as a token of their appreciation for his kindness and service on their behalf. It has remained a treasured possession and stands as a testament of his concern and kindness for those who were without husbands or fathers.
Survived by his wife, Jody, six of his seven children, their spouses, and 20 grandchildren: Heather & (Brent Nielsen) Dallin, Ryan, Elizabeth, Mary & Jacob; Joseph & (Stephanie), Hyrum, Madeline, and Merrill; Jared & (Marianne), James and Anna; Samuel (deceased), Raquel and Ashlynn; Holly Tennant; Aaron & (Emily), Alayna, Jace and Brianna; Seth & (Leah), Haley, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Abigail, and Alyssa.
