Biography

Greatly Missed but Happily Remembered

Max Hanson, our beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many passed from this life to eternity on December 3, 2014 at 88 years of age. We know he will be bringing his positive outlook, kindness and generous spirit to the loved ones who have been waiting for him beyond the veil.
Max was born in Malad, Idaho to Leo and Marie Hanson, the second youngest of seven children. His family moved to Ogden when he was two years old, where he grew up adored by his siblings and many friends. During World War Two, at the age of 17, Max asked his parents for permission to join the Navy and nobly served on the Destroyer the USS Converse. After the war, he attended Utah State College, earning a degree in Speech and Psychology. There he met and married his eternal sweetheart, Gay Beesley on December 27, 1951 in the Logan Temple. Max then joined the Air Force as a pilot, flying for his country in the Korean War as well as numerous other missions, and ascended to the rank of Colonel. He later became a Contract Administrator for Hill Air Force Base. Max and his wife spent three years in Saudi Arabia, followed by two years in Korea, where he continued to work as a Contract Administrator for the government. They enjoyed experiencing the unique cultures and took many opportunities to travel to other countries as well.
Max was an active member of the LDS Church, holding many positions including Gospel Doctrine Teacher, Elders Quorum Teacher and High Priest Teacher. He was an excellent speaker with a sharp and ready wit. He had a zest for life and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. Everyone who knew him loved him and felt his love in return.
Family has always been the most important part of life for Max, and he would have celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary with the love of his life on December 27th. He loved spending Sundays and holidays with his family. He is survived by his wife Gay, his children Stacey (Steve) Arnold and Sterling (Doreen Lynn) Hanson, his four grandchildren Linzey, Marisa, Holly and Eric, three great-granddaughters with a fourth ready to be born at any moment, his 94-year-old sister Beth and many family members.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10 in the Eagleridge Ward Building at 351 Lofty Lane in North Salt Lake. Friends and family may visit Tuesday, December 9 between 6 and 8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful, and 11:45 am on December 10 at the church. Interment to follow where Max will be laid to rest in the Ogden City Cemetery near his family.
