Maydolin Smith

May 14, 1924 — September 24, 2012

Maydolin Long Smith
Maydolin passed away on Monday September 24, 2012 at Lakeview Hospital, holding her daughter’s hand. The symptoms lead to a diagnosis of a ruptured Aorta. She was born in East Midvale, Utah on May 14, 1924 to Joseph Harold Long and Alice McCleery. She attended Midvale Elementary and Jordan High School.
Maydolin was quite a writer and she wrote many family histories and did family research for years. She loved to crochet and had made over 600 afghans which she donated to rest homes, Ronald McDonald House, hospitals, neighbors and friends. She loved flowers and as a child always worked with her father in his flower garden and green house. Maydolin was a telephone operator at the Murray telephone office for many years. One of her co-workers there set her up a blind date with a young man in the ward. His name was Arthur Smith and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 11, 1947. They had one child, Araina. Together they started Bountiful Rental and later Layton Rental. She decorated weddings with her business, May-Rose Weddings.
She is survived by her daughter Araina & Douglas Thorsness, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Denton & Michelle, (Dillon, Aspen); Dustin & Martina, of Germany; Corey & Cherie (Kearen, Kaiya) Thorsness and Challe & Aaron (Zelma, Issac) Carter. She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur, sister Maydith (Reinald) Stelter, and brother Kyle Long.
Visit with the family at Russon Brothers Funeral Home, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah from noon to 2 pm on Monday, October 1st. Burial will be at Murray City Cemetery. At her request there will be NO services.
