Melba Jane Kennington

October 23, 1933 — September 14, 2015

Melba Jane Kennington passed away on September 14, 2015.  She was born on October 28, 1933 to Robert and Anna (Greenburg) Busby in Pekin, Illinois. Melba loved life!  She was a member of the Pekin High School Graduating Class of 1951 where she served as Sophomore Class President. She also played the flute in the Marching Band and the violin in the Orchestra. In 1952 she moved to Utah and in February of 1953 married Phil Kennington in the Salt Lake Temple.  She attended the University of Utah and was affiliated with the first women’s tennis team. Melba was a superb tennis player and won dozens of local tennis tournaments. She taught her children tennis, a great work ethic and how to enjoy life.

Melba had a strong testimony of the Savior and held many callings throughout her life.  She was generous with her time, talents and kindness in serving others.  Between her and her children, the family has shelved dozens of plaques, trophies and honors.

She was friendly and gregarious by nature, and those traits became apparent by the many visitors she had at the Hospital and Care Center where she most recently resided.  Her husband and family love her and will miss her.

Melba is survived by her husband of 62 years, Phil Kennington, son Kim Kennington, daughter Karen (Keith) Jeppson, son Kevin (Cathy) Kennington, son Karl (Patty) Kennington, Klark (Trina) Kennington, 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Victor Quinn Kennington, brothers and sisters, Robert Busby, Avis Oveson, Ruth Busby, Stanley Busby, Byron Busby and Charles Busby.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at the L.D.S. chapel located at 8600 South 1200 East, Sandy Utah.  The viewing will be held prior to the funeral, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com.
