Melvin G. Lappin 3/22/1924 6/5/2011
Melvin George Lappin, born March 22, 1924 in Keenesburg, Colorado, died June 5, 2011. Served in the Marines during WW II on the island of Pelilu in the Pacific. Melvin married Anna Dwyer February 14, 1945. They had 3 children: Barbara Hoadley, Michael Lappin, and Patricia Amstutz; 5 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He later married Iris E. Kasl, who later died. After 62 years Melvin found his High School sweetheart, Barbara Ord Smith, and married her on May 29, 2004. He inherited 7 children, 33 grandchildren, and 58 great-grandchildren, and loved them as his own. Grandpa Mel found a special joy in the little ones. Melvin was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 29, 2005, and went through the Jordan River Temple on June 6, 2008. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 11, at 11:00 at the Jordan Parkway Ward, 3935 S. 1500 W., West Valley City.
