Melvin Jay Mills, 83, passed away December 23, 2022. He was comfortable and alert and had the chance to spend time with each of "his girls" before leaving this life. Melvin had the privilege of being born to Clinton L. Mills and Ann Thorley Cox in Salt Lake City, on January 3rd, 1939. He grew up in Woods Cross, Utah, of which he was very proud. He was the second of five children, preceded in death by his brother Clinton Linnis Mills (Barbara) and Marian Elinor Mills. He is survived by his beloved brother and sister Gordan Everard Mills (Joan) and Marsha Ann Mills Roundy (Mac). He married his loving wife of 50 years, Lynda Rachel Nelson, on June 23, 1972, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Melvin was the dedicated and loving father of four children, Dennis Jay Mills, Jennie Ann Mills Bassette (Kenny), Libby Melynda Mills Mabey (Clayton Thomas), and Alisan Rachel Mills. His children were the joy of his life and he worked continuously to be a wonderful father and grandfather. He often sent them letters containing his love for them, his testimony of the Gospel, and sometimes a poem he had written. He was known to create a song anytime there was not peace in the home and had a quick wit and a special way with people. Mel served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1959 in Tampa, Florida. Melvin talked many times of the wonderful life he had growing up on the farm and the blessing he had of being born into such a wonderful family where he learned to serve others, work hard, be kind and honest, give all he had, and where he was taught to be a representative of the Savior in all he did. He was known to drop off a warm loaf of bread or a homemade cake to those who he knew and loved. Melvin was a great example of service in the way he continuously served those he knew and those he didn't know yet.
