Melvin Albert White beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away March 21, 2011. Born to James Albert and Marion Erskine White on November 21, 1927 in Salt Lake City. He married Gertrude (Trudy) Oliekan September 11, 1950 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mel served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received his Masters in Social Work and his Phd in Sociology at the U of U. Positions held were; Director of Utah State Division of Aging, Director of Rocky Mountain Gerontology Center at the U of U, Chief of Social Work Services at the VA Hospital, teacher with BYU Extension, Counselor with Family Health Services, and Social Work Instructor and Adjunct Associate Professor at the U of U. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Great Britain. The outdoors was his passion. Preceded in death by sisters, Evelyn Baggs and Marion Swann, and grandson, Brad Matthew Wren. Mel is survived by his wife, Trudy; seven daughters – Melany (Dewane) Wren, Janell (Mitch) Palmer, Lindy (Alan) Spendlove, Heather Anderson, Claudette (Scott) Harris, Shelly (Al) Call, Sharlene (Leland) Morrill; 31 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great-children. The family wishes to thank Tender Care Hospice for their loving care of Mel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the LDS Chapel, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Saturday 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
