Merl D. Perkins
1932 ~ 2017
Merl D. Perkins, age 85, passed away on September 14, 2017. He was born in Randolph, Utah on August 15, 1932, to Clarence and Edith Elaine Hatch Perkins. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LeRae Joyce Bulkley Perkins; three brother, Clarence Lamar Perkins, Verl J Perkins (Merl’s twin), and Ray Hatch Perkins; and a sister, Elda Marie Huff. He is survived by three sisters Louise (Dale) Hall, Clearfield, Lorna (Larry) Price of Syracuse, Cheryl Green, Woods Cross; Sons; Ronald C (Tammy) Perkins of Erda, Wayne D (Alison) Perkins, Liberty, Allen Leon (Sherri) Perkins Hardin, Montana, Douglas Hal Perkins, Bountiful, one daughter, Susan Kay Cleaver of Fruit Heights; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Merl grew up in the Davis County area graduating from Davis High School. Merl and LeRae were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on October 12, 1951. Merl was drafted into the military, December 2, 1952 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged June 19, 1954. When Merl returned they moved to Chicago, Illinois for schooling which is where their first child, Ron, was born. They have lived in Farmington, Kearns, Bountiful, Woods Cross, Willard and Fruit Heights. Merl was active in the LDS Church serving as Bishop in two Woods Cross wards. He loved and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was awarded the Silver Beaver. He loved his family and was instrumental in bringing all his siblings’ families together for several family parties each year. He worked 3 jobs while raising his children and passed on his work ethic to them and his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, camping, horses and the outdoors all with his family.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m., Thursday evening and Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery in Bountiful.
