Merlene Vernon Juluson

April 8, 1937 — August 26, 2021

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Merlene Vernon Juluson, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021 at home surrounded by her devoted and loving family. She was born April 8, 1937 at her family home in Wanship, Utah to Francis Oscar and Sadie Amelia Vernon.  She joined a family of four older brothers: Reed, Art, Louis and Stewart.  A sister, Ona Myrtle, had previously died at the age of four months.  She is survived by a living brother, Louis.

Merlene graduated from North Summit High School in 1955 in Coalville, Utah.  She worked at Mountain Fuel Supply for six years following graduation from high school.  She and her lifelong sweetheart, Richard “Dick” V. Juluson, were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on September 11, 1958.  Dick preceded her in death on November 12, 2014.

Together they raised a loving and close family of three sons and two daughters: Denise Farnes (Ray), Layne, Steven, Richard (Becky) and Michon Mackey (Joe); thirteen grandchildren and seven great granddaughters.

Mom’s love, fondness and devotion to her husband and family were the most important thing in her life.  They affectionately called her “Mimi” or “Mer” as Dick would call her.  The two of them were known as Mimi and Popsie.  They built their dream home in Bountiful, Utah (Val Verda area) in 1965 and lived there for 50 years.  Mom gathered her family together often and we looked forward to family parties. Mom was an excellent cook and she made a home that was tasteful, warm and inviting with lots of good food. She was known for being a master gardener and lovingly cared for her beautiful flowers.  In later years she moved to Centerville and made a little sitting room in her garage in Chase Lane Village where she would visit with friends and family with a Diet Coke in hand.

Mom and Dad spent 62 years together as constant companions and best friends.  They were always by each other’s side and rode to work together every day for seventeen years. Both worked at Primary Children’s Medical Center, with mom working in the business office as a financial counselor, and dad as a pharmacist. They later enjoyed great times traveling in their 5th wheel RV during their retirement years.  Mom and Dad were such a caring twosome who cared for and assisted many family members and others in need.  Some took up residence in their home.  They were known as belonging to the “Caretaker Generation.”

We will miss mom dearly but know that she is at peace and reunited with her husband.  We will look back on her life with gratitude and appreciate the impact that she had on each one of us. People may die, but love is eternal.  We will not forget.

A viewing will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Russon Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Bountiful, Utah from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and on August 31, 2021 from 9:45 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.  A private memorial service for immediate and extended family will be held on August 31, 2021 @ 11:00 a.m. at Russon Bountiful Mortuary. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 S. 200 W. Bountiful.
