Merline Elder Hawk, a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 28, 1935, in Lehi, Utah, to Abram and Edith Elder, Merline was one of nine siblings.
Merline married Leo Berg in the St. George, Utah temple in 1954, and they shared a brief but beautiful marriage until Leo's passing in 1956. In 1957, she married Leland Munden, and together they had two children, Dennis, and Lawrence, before parting ways. Merline married Allen Long in 1970, and they were blessed with two children, Lyle, and Cindy. After their divorce, Merline stayed single for many years. She eventually found love again with Dennis Hawk, whom she met on a Thanksgiving cruise in 2009. They married surrounded by Merline’s family on September 18, 2010. They loved to have adventures and travel together. Dennis remained by Merline’s side, faithfully caring for her through her final days.
An adventurous spirit, Merline loved the outdoors, camping, boating, traveling and the beach. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always seeing the best in those around her. Merline was always willing to help those around her; she would move heaven and earth for those she cared about. She attended every event she could for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as for her nieces and nephews’ families. Merline’s home was a haven for many teens as she opened her heart and home as a foster mom.
Merline's legacy of love, kindness, and adventure will live on in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents Abram and Edith, her siblings, Duane, Ferron, Leonard, De Loy, Glenna, and Laurence, and her son Lawrence Munden. Merline is survived by her husband, Dennis Hawk, her sisters Bonnie, and Utahna and her children, Dennis (Sherrilyn), Lyle, and Cindy (Jon), as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
