Merrill Brough Nielson
1954-2016
Merrill Brough Nielson born on September 10, 1954 in Salt Lake City, passed away in his home on February 19, 2016 in Kaysville. Merrill was the son of Marie Brough and Dennis Nielson. Dad was an avid gardener, he had an incredible green thumb and gardening made him happy. Sharing his passion and teaching others how to garden were a large love of his life. Working as a registered nurse in orthopedics and hospice care over the past 20 years allowed him to have a special rapport with his patients and their families. He often talked about his love of medicine and his patients, learning many lessons from them. Serving others in hospice nursing and being there for them in their final moments brought him peace and joy. Dad was a jack of all trades; from going back to school to become a nurse, working with his brothers and father in the fiber glass business, carpentry, construction, auto mechanic and many other trades, he had a special gift to create projects with his hands, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t craft.
He taught his family the love of the outdoors with camping trips when his children were young. The importance of family; spending time with extended family at his parents’ home in Farmington, riding snowmobiles, 3 wheelers, waffle dinners and many other activities is what he loved most. Dad loved his 5 grandbabies and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them. He had a special bond with Max (grandson) who was his best friend. From teaching the grandbabies the love of the outdoors, snuggling up to watch a movie, sleepovers in the teepee in his back yard to star gaze these are the times he enjoyed most in his older years. Teaching the grandbabies the spirit of family and loving them kept his heart young, he was their papa and they will greatly miss him.
Merrill is greeted in heaven by his son Timothy, daughter Angela, parents and sister Joyce. Now that he is free from his physical body that limited him he will be able to finish his projects and teach us from above.
He is survived by his children Heidi Ann, JC, Ben (Barbara), Emily (Jesse), Christopher and 5 loving grandbabies, Izzy, Kaleb, Max, Kloe & Evie. He also leaves behind four brothers, four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Quick journey dad, we hope you find peace in your new life and we know we’ve gained another angel on our side. Help Timmer have the camp fire ready. We love you and will see you again soon.
