The world has suffered a great loss and it may never know.
Quietly, without fanfare, on the evening of December 26th, 2019 our handsome, kind and brave son Michael’s body grew weary of battle. Without surrendering to his internal enemy, he valiantly moved on to his next great adventure. After eight months and 2 days of stalwart battle against a merciless and inhuman adversary that invaded his body, Michael heroically took his last breath and released his spirit to his Heavenly Father.
Michael’s approach to life was similar to his battle with Ewing sarcoma, Fierce. He loved life. He thrived on adventure and always met challenges with a gracious smile. He was full of gratitude and kindness and treated everyone, except perhaps his little sisters, with courtesy and respect.
Michael was a student at Mueller Park Junior High school where he was surrounded by friends and faculty that loved him. Michael was a Boy Scout, he could read music and was learning to play the tuba. He was a wrestler and he is a great brother and son. Michael's goals included one day being a police officer, father, and husband. He loved to skateboard, hang out with his friends and his girlfriend and his favorite color was orange.
He exuded love. He was charming and approachable. Once you knew him you fell in love with him. He was so full of spirit and goodwill. He only wished good for everyone. Michael had a smile that made you feel instantly comfortable. He was comforting to others while a war raged on in his body. He was the strongest person we have ever known. His faith in his Heavenly father endured till the end.
He will be missed by his identical twin, Gabriel Anthony, his parents Shannon D and Anna Joaquina, his siblings Ariel Mercedes, Kira Azure, Emilia Morgan, Abigale Rose, Marshall Jes, Samantha D Hunter and Chloe D Archer. Similarly, he will be remembered and loved by his girlfriend, Payton Mackinley Barton, her mother, Kortnie Ann Burningham, her eldest daughter, Harley Mackelle Barton and his close friends Haley Jacklynn Carter, Landon William George Oliphant and McKay Russel Keith.
We would also like to recognize everyone who fought side by side with Michael and respected his wishes to never give up. This would include the oncology staff at Primary Childrens Hospital, The PICU staff, the radiation staff and his “Ladies,” at the Huntsman Cancer Institute. We would also like to thank The Ronald McDonald house and our coworkers from The Golden Corral, Hughes Construction and Chuck A Rama.
We would be remiss by not mentioning the true hero's in Michael’s Battle, the people who gave us 8 more wonderful months and 2 more days of memories with our beloved son, Physician and Scientist, Dr Mathew Popey and Dr Douglas B Fair.
We also are filled with gratitude and love for our medical social worker who made it possible for us to be by Michael’s side, Kameron Leon.
