Michael Jon Lynn

August 25, 1957 — October 17, 2018

Michael Jon Lynn Sr. passed away restfully on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 due to respiratory complications[MOU1] .  He was surrounded by his wife and members of his family as he peacefully departed.

Mike was born on August 25, 1957 to Wayne Bender Lynn and Roita Monk Lynn in Lovell, WY. and was the middle of eleven children.  While growing up his family lived in a variety of communities including Byron, WY; Holbrook, AZ; Mesa, AZ; and Orem UT before finally establishing their home in Centerville, UT in 1971.  Mike attended Viewmont High School in where we enrolled in ROTC and joined the wrestling team before graduating in the Class of 1976.

He soon followed his passion for military service and joined the US Air Force in 1979.  That same year he married Joyce Elaine Nichols on August 11, 1979 and together they raised their four children while stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. Over the course of Mike’s military service, he was honored to serve in South Korea and in Operation Desert Storm.  Mike was the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT) working in the supply system as a Supply Manager and later as a Systems Analyst writing several programs for which he received an accommodation. Mike retired from the service in 1992 and soon after moved his family back to Utah in 1995 to be near extended family, and for the last 22 years Mike enjoyed working for the U.S. Postal Service’s encoding center. During his spare time he enjoyed reading science fiction and suspense novels, and also loved sharing his passion of going to the movies with his grandchildren. Mike’s childlike curiosity and sense of adventurous always made for fun family memories for which we will be deeply missed.  Mike and Elaine were grateful to have been able to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii and looked forward to retirement and other travel adventures.

Mike is survived by his father, Wayne; his wife, Elaine; their children Joycelyn (Mark) Haley of West Bountiful, UT; Frances Marie Lynn of North Salt Lake, UT; Michael Jon Jr. (Tracey) Lynn of Youngstown, OH; and Alycia (Daniel) Lynn-Maciel of Centerville, UT; seventeen grandchildren; four brothers and four sisters.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Roita; his brothers, Alan Lynn and Curtis Lynn; and his father-in-law, Fred Nichols.
