Michael Lewis Jones was born on 3 October, 1952 in Ogden, Utah, to Harry Arthur and Margie Faye (Lewis) Jones. He was the 2nd of five children, the only son.
He grew up in Southern California, developing an early interest in machines and technology. He learned to work on cars and keep them running as a teenager, which gave him the freedom to pursue his interests out of the home. Mike also loved scouting and became an Eagle Scout.
He served an LDS mission in Ontario and Quebec Canada in the Fall of 1971 - Fall of 1973.
Mike first attended Pierce College in Los Angeles, and finished his Bachelors in Marketing and Business Management at BYU. In his Organizational Behavior class, he met Joy Tibbitts of Arco, Idaho in January of 1976. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Aug 14, 1976, Mike having graduated from BYU just the day before their wedding. They made their home in Simi Valley, Ca. and welcomed a daughter, Michelle Lynn in 1977.
They then moved closer to family in Davis County, and built a home in Farmington, Utah. Mike and Joy did a majority of the construction work, electrical, and plumbing. That was the kind of man Mike was. There they welcomed 4 more children. Matthew Lewis in 1980, Marc Steven in 1983, M’Recia Joy in 1988, and Melissa Mikhailovna in 1992.
In addition to his Business degree, Mike worked as a Certified Public Accountant. Though his client list diminished in the past several years, he did taxes for a handful of clients and family members until the day he passed. He was known as a tax expert, and was the go-to guy for several special cases.
His career over the years involved varied types of accounting, business, and consulting roles. His work took him all over the US and even extended stays in the Soviet Union, Zimbabwe, and Mexico.
Mike loved books, music, and movies and had extensive collections of all. He loved to sail boats and fly planes. He loved computers, cameras, and gadgets of all kind. He was an amateur radio enthusiast, and loved to travel, especially cruises. He had visited all 50 states and many countries in Africa, Europe, and Austrailia. He was actively involved in the Utah Republican Party and served as treasurer for several years. The family accompanied Mike to the Republican National Convention in New Orleans in 1988 where he was a delegate. This trip became famous in the Deseret News when the youngest at the time, Marc, was kissed by Muhammad Ali. Mike also loved family history and was a faithful life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He held many callings through the years. One of his favorites was teaching Sunday School at the Davis County Jail for a time.
Mike was a thoughtful and wonderful co-caretaker of their youngest daughter Melissa, as she battled cancer in 2018. He also devoted in his service to his mother in law, Joyce Tibbitts, while she lived with them from 2017 until her passing in 2023.
Mike passed away suddenly March 15, while doing what he loved most - hanging out with Joy. He is survived by his wife, Joy. 4 children, Michelle (Jeff Fredericks), Matt (Kathy) Jones, Marc Jones, M’Recia Seegmiller and 11 grandchildren Alec (Chelsea), Chelise, Gideon, Dallin, Eden, Larke, Preston, Rushmore, Patrick, Reuben, and Juliette. 4 sisters Turhalee, Sheila, Susan (John Openshaw), and Julie (David Christiansen).
