Michael Murdock

Biography

Michael Dennis Murdock passed away peacefully on November 5, 2013, at the home of his daughter in Layton, Utah. He was born August 14, 1940, in Ogden, Utah to Delbert and Lila Murdock. Michael graduated from Ogden High School where he served as student-body president. He attended Weber State College where he also served as student-body president and earned his Bachelor’s degree in English. He served a full-time LDS mission to the Eastern Canadian Mission. Michael and his sweetheart, Deanna, were married on September 20, 1963 in the Logan LDS Temple. He spent most of his career working for the American Cancer Society where he found much fulfillment.
Michael was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as bishop, stake president, and president of the California Ventura Mission where he was able to preside with Deanna. They also enjoyed teaching English at S.C.U.T. in Guangzhou, China. He had a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior, and his love and commitment to the gospel was apparent in his everyday life. He will be remembered for his warm, friendly demeanor and quick humor. His life centered around his family.
He is survived by his children: Mike (Jessica) Murdock, Lani Murdock, Todd (Lisa) Murdock, Jana (Mark) Pendleton, Jodi (Brett) Benson, Ladd (Kristen) Murdock, Brandon (Cari) Murdock; and 28 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marilyn (Val) Southwick and a nephew. He is preceded in death by his wife and parents and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the Layton Utah Valley View Stake Center, 1589 E. Gentile. Family and friends are invited to meet at 10:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery in Bountiful. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.
