Michael "Sean" Chilcote

June 3, 1966 — February 17, 2019

Sean was diagnosed with an aggressive terminal brain cancer on March 30, 2017. Thanks to God’s grace and goodness, we were given many more beautiful months than the predicted prognosis. Following his diagnosis, some of the first selfless, loving words out of his mouth were, “How are you doing?” and “We have everything we need!” Fighting valiantly through two brain surgeries and a significant loss of vision, time stood still so we could enjoy many treasured months and memories together. Our loving father, “hot” husband, adoring grandfather, cherished son and brother, and caring friend returned home to his loving Heavenly Father while surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 17, 2019.

Sean was raised in West Valley. He was the second of five children and spent his younger years hooky-bobbing, playing catch with his dad, having late night chats with his mom, popping wheelies on his motorcycle in his OP shorts, and shining the tires on his Firebird. Sean was affectionately referred to as Mr. Mom, being a constant companion to his two younger brothers, who pretty much worshipped him.  Sean had a special relationship with his parents and often expressed his words of gratitude. Sean loved sports, especially basketball and playing high school football. At the young age of 16, while working at Francesco's, tossing pizzas, he met the love of his life (no seriously… Sean LOOOOVES his wife) Sharla Bird. She is his whole world. After marrying in the Salt Lake Temple, they lovingly raised their four children; Sharissa (Logan), Brayden (Makinsey), Ashton (McKenzie), and Rylee, who are their best friends to this day.

Sean was as an electrical engineer for 28 years, working the majority of that time for Utah Power and Light (PacifiCorp) before fulfilling his lifelong dream of owning his own business (Chilcote Engineering) which gave him more time to live his PASSION — FAMILY (although cuddling is a close second)! He couldn’t get close enough to his sweetheart and loved traveling anywhere and everywhere by her side, especially to the holy land. He loved spoiling his princess Sharissa with tenderness, love, back rubs and Disneyland. Shooting guns, throwing a ball, backyard basketball, early morning ski runs, ditching school for a powder day, four-wheeling, and scuba diving with his boys. Kissing, cuddling, playing, tickling and giggling with his grandchildren. Nothing filled his heart with more JOY than the sound of his eight grandchildren, who he adored and smothered with love and affection. His most recent grandchild he helped usher in just days after his passing.

He loved vanilla anything, tapioca pudding, eggnog, creme brulee, and jamocha shakes were simply DIVINE. His infectious, hearty laughter filled the room and our hearts. He loved the water in every shape and form and could tear it up on a water ski. He loved the breeze on his face in the boat, and the sun and smells of Lake Powell that he basked in with his family!

When asked what he needed, “Choose Christ!” was his response. His greatest desire was to lift others by testifying of Jesus Christ! When serving as bishop, his understanding of God’s love for His children was heartfelt and deep. He loved the people – frequently shedding tears of love! He was meek, humble, genuine, grateful, kind, tender-hearted, and full of integrity. Despite his vision loss, he never lost sight of his Redeemer, Jesus Christ who carried him, even, all the way home. In the words of Sean, “God is good, God is soo good, it’s all going to be okay.”

Sean leaves behind his wife Sharla, his 4 children (mentioned above) and 7 grandchildren, his parents, Garn and Alicia, and three younger siblings, Cheryl (Lane), Justin (Danielle) and Jason (Whittney). Sean is preceded in death by his sister Bobbi and his sweet grandson Aiden.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 25 at 11:00 am. A brief viewing will precede funeral services from 9:30-10:45 am. All services will be held at the Haight Bench Chapel (1650 S. 500 E. Kaysville, UT 84037). Interment will be at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
