Michael Thompson

May 1, 1947 — February 11, 2011

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Michael Joe Thompson. He faded away peacefully at home Friday evening, February 11, 2011. He was born May 1, 1947 to Thomas Clayton Thompson and Alice Moss Thompson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Raised in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Bountiful High School. Married Daryl Richmond November 21, 1968. Joe was a proud member of Local 140 (previously Locals 57-19-348). He began his service with his union brothers and sisters in 1976 as a pipefitter and welder. Loyally served as Business Manager for several years. A past member of the Executive Board of Utah State AFL-CIO and sat on the Board of United Association Joint Apprenticeship Training Council (JATC). Survived by his wife, Daryl; son, Taylor; daughter, Jolayne (Juan); and son, Andy; 5 grandchildren; brothers, Clayton (Karen) and Dwayne (Norma); and sisters, Judy (Brent) and Susan (Jerry); and many nieces and nephews. We cannot forget his special Gene Autry watching sidekick and beloved dog, Pansy. Joe loved to watch the surf and eat shrimp in Mexico. He loved to dink around in his garage and felt right at home with a hose in his hands, always watering something. Joe was a mountain of a man with a sense of humor and a heart to match. . . . . A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Dr., Bountiful, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Humane Society or your favorite charity. He loved and was loved!
