Micheal Gary Elliott

April 8, 1957 — January 13, 2017

Micheal (Mike) Gary Elliott, 59, of Katy, Texas; passed away January 13, 2017 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on April 8, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gary Edwin Elliott and Sharon Coombs.

He lived a life of service to his family, God, and company. Throughout his life, Mike was always very active, and motivated to fulfill his passions. Born of goodly parents, Mike was able to excel in academic achievements and spiritual development. Mike attended Brigham Young University at age 17 on a math scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor’s of civil engineering, and later received an MBA while working as a licensed professional engineer.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a missionary in La Paz, Bolivia from 1976-1978. He faithfully served his volunteer church duties as a stake high councilmen in Katy, Texas, and was beloved by the Sealy congregation members for his additional service there.

Mike initially befriended his eternal sweetheart Annette Johanson while they both were serving as LDS missionaries in Bolivia. On August 25, 1978 Mike and Annette were married.  This was the starting point of their service to each other and to others as they moved around the world for the next 39 years together. He devoted his time to her, his five sons, his one princess of a daughter – and their spouses and families. His kids remember his daily devotion to their achievements, successes, and personal goals. Mike embodied enthusiasm and energy for life and lifting those around him. He exemplified bold humility in all he did, he moved forward with confidence because he was a masterful planner and knew he had Heavenly Father on his side. Mike’s integrity and genuine care for others was an unquestionable trait that allowed him to live a life of leadership in all he did.  He loved doing anything with his children – playing sports, enjoying the outdoors, dancing with his girls, strategizing a new direction in life, or simply just being dad.  Mike always seemed to be laughing, whether in interacting with adults or playing with his grandchildren, joy and love radiated from him.

Mike worked for 36 years for ConocoPhillips now Phillips 66. He served in various engineering and management positons. From a Construction Engineer in Lake Charles, Louisiana, A General Project Manager in Caracas, Venezuela, and lastly as the Senior Shareholder Representative at Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. He received numerous accolades from ConocoPhillips as well as various industry organizations for his exemplary service. He also just culminated his work as the 2016 Construction Industry Institute Chairman.

Mike was proceeded in death by his son Gary Elliott and father Gary Elliott. Mike is survived by his wife Annette, and their children: Michael Elliott (Kendra) of Boston, MA, Matthew Elliott (Rebecca) of Amarillo, TX, Steven Elliott (Abish) of Patchogue, NY, Sterling Elliott (Kirstie) of Stafford, VA, Crystal Knoblauch (Brent) of Washington, DC; and his mother Sharon Elliott; and his siblings: Debra Allen, Sherry Southworth, Mark Elliott, and Walter Elliott.

Funeral services will be held at the Katy Stake Center, 1305 Norwalk Drive, Katy, TX, January 18, 2017 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. There will be a viewing at the same location from 10:00am – 12:00pm. There is an additional viewing held the night before on January 17, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the Schmidt Funeral Home, 1344 West Grand Parkway South, Katy TX. The Utah services will commence with a viewing from 9:00 – 10:15 am at the Rock Chapel in Farmington Utah, 272 North Main St. Farmington, Utah 84025. This will be followed by a friends and family memorial service from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the same location. The interment will be for family and close friends at the Farmington City Cemetery, in Utah on January 21, 2017 at 12:30 pm.
