Michel Léo Gerard Britte

After influencing the lives of many, Michel Léo Gerard Britte passed from the most valiant battle with glioblastoma brain cancer on June 10, 2022. Michel was born in the Liège region of Belgium on October 29, 1968 and spent his childhood and youth there where he developed a love for all sports and a passion for playing soccer. These interests would lead him to the desire to share his skills and knowledge in the form of coaching youth in the community for many years. He grew up in a large extended family who were devoted to God and to serving others. This would also have a profound impact on his life.

At the age of 21, he accepted the invitation of his aunt, Josette Britte Ashford to spend a semester with her in Provo, Utah where she was a professor at BYU. The minute he stepped out of the airport and felt the August heat, he knew he wanted to stay. When Michel set his mind to something, he had a fierce determination and discipline. He insisted that his aunt only speak English to him, but his native French continued to be an important part of his life and even in his last days he was able to switch from one language to another.

Michel graduated from UVU where he played soccer, and on New Year’s Day, 1996, he was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly after, he started a new job in Salt Lake City where he met Noelle Jones on the first day. They were married on December 4, 1996 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they have 3 children: Audree (23), Alec (21), Abbie (18). From the moment he was diagnosed with cancer his only desire was for the welfare of his children and their happiness. Michel was an employee of Workday and was well taken care of by the company and his coworkers throughout his illness. His time coaching at Surf and for Bountiful High School gave him great happiness.

Michel is survived by his wife and children of Farmington, Utah, his mother Christiane Britte-Thomas, and brother, André Britte (Michèle) of Belgium, and many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his father, Léo Britte. The family deeply thanks the neuro-oncology staff at Huntsman Cancer institute as well as the hospice nurses and prefers donations be given to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in lieu of flowers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 11 am at the LDS chapel at 2110 North Main Street, Centerville Utah with a viewing from 9:30 am to 10:30 am prior. There will also be a viewing on Friday, June 17 from 6 – 8 at Russon Mortuary 295 North Main in Bountiful.
