Our Sweet Angel , Michelle Nicole Roth, was born on June 7th, 1991 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She came into this world facing some physical challenges, and passed away on August 28th, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah, due to multiple organ failure, one of which was her heart. It was so full of love for everyone that she met, that it just couldn’t hold it all in anymore.
Michelle graduated from Woods Cross High School in 2011 and the STEPS program in 2013.
Michelle was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was baptized on the same day as her younger sister, Eryka, on August 4th, 2001 at the age of 10. She loved to serve and help others, especially children, by fulfilling her callings in the Primary and Nursery. She always called those in Primary, “her kids.” In 2015 Michelle served a Church Service Mission in the Cafeteria, as a greeter, at the Church Office Building. She also served at The Bishop’s Storehouse at Welfare Square.
Michelle was very proud of any job she had. She worked at Marshall’s, Corner 22 Gas Station, Bountiful Rec Center, Chuck-E-Cheese, Harmon’s, Planet Fitness, and Lil’ Squeezers (Little Caesars). She was so excited to earn a paycheck, so she could save money to go to Lagoon.
Michelle was a wonderful twenty-seven year old woman, with Special Abilities. She went through life as a big ray of sunshine, touching so many lives and hearts with her social butterfly personality. Michelle always made a friend with anyone and everyone that she met. She could not go anywhere without either finding a friend to catch up with or making a brand new one. Everyone could always hear her before they saw her when she was out on trips to the store, rec center, or movie theater. They knew that their friend Michelle was just around the corner with a warm hello and cheerful grin. She was also concerned about others when they were sad.
Michelle loved to watch chick flicks and talk about how cute boys are, Zac Efron, Hot Jacob Black, Justin Beaver (Bieber) being her favorites, alongside the neighborhood boys in her life. She loved watching music videos with her father and musicals with her mother. She would take care to always water her tomatoes. She loved to go camping and travel, more so in a car than a plane. She visited the following countries: Denmark, Germany, Holland, England, France, Austria, Sweden, and Norway as well as most of the western states in the USA, and Washington DC. Michelle went indoor skydiving, and loved to ski, bike, and bowl. She also loved to pose for pictures in her signature “Michelle poses”. Every day, she took long walks through the neighborhood to visit with people. Michelle liked playing with Barbie’s, games, and putting together puzzles with her brother in law, Tyler. But her most favorite thing in the world to do was to visit her BEST FRIEND KELLI and her family.
Michelle would always greet others by telling them all about her and other life stories, occasionally starting and spreading rumors. She was known for her clapping and cheering at inappropriate times, even during church, but her enthusiasm and zest for life was always appreciated. She didn’t always have a good concept of time (everything happened either 6 weeks or 8 years ago) but she always knew when Mutual, Dance, and Church was, because she had to be there for her children in Primary. She also knew when she had to help her BEST FRIEND KELLI with groceries, every week. She loved her nails to be painted but always picked it off hours later, even professionally-done gel polish. Her loud single knock was more of a warning for those in the house than anything else.
Michelle loved to eat, especially salads and fruits. She could not get enough of her parents’ Frikadeller (Danish meatballs), Enchiladas, Nigel’s German pancakes, Eryka’s Deviled eggs, chicken, Joann’s Ris Ala Mande (Danish Christmas Rice Pudding), Nutella, Chicken Fettuccini, and Sprite.
Michelle loved to listen to music, sing, dance, and perform. She was in Woods Cross High School’s production of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. She performed in many Mutual and SNAP (Special Needs Activity Program) productions at the Davis Regional Center. She also performed in plays at CenterPoint Legacy Theater, produced by Friend to Friend. Among her favorites were Beauty and the Beast, Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat, Lion King, and the annual Christmas program. She went to perform and compete in the Miss Amazing Pageant, singing “Who Said” by Selena Gomez and “This Is Me” from the Greatest Showman. She introduced herself to everyone, answered interview questions, and showed off her evening gowns. She won 1st Runner Up in both years that she competed, 2017 and 2018.
Michelle became an adopted daughter and sister to the Tandy family. She would wait for Kelli’s preschool students to be released from school, so she could go over to Kelli’s. She would watch and wait for Kelli’s kids to come from school on the school bus. She would “steal” Kelli’s mail (“So it didn’t get stolen!”) as well as watch their family cats. She would copy Kelli’s hair dressing and she loved doing everyone’s hair, especially her brothers. She was never satisfied, and loved to do and redo her own hair.
Michelle was the second of four children and is survived by her parents, Phil and Joann; her siblings, Frederik, Eryka (Tyler) Helsten, and Jeremy; her best friend Kelli; and so many family and friends that she has made in her short life.
Michelle came into this world with an imperfect body, which we now believe will become perfect. Even with these challenges, she made the most of life and brought joy and a smile to all.
Michelle was always cared for and watched over by many friends and extended family throughout her life. Her devoted family was always there for her every day of her life and would do anything for her. Thank you to all those who have shown her love and support over the years, and to her Special Friends at STEPS, SNAP (Special Needs Activity Program), FRIEND TO FRIEND, and OHANA. Thank you also, to the medical staff at LDS Hospital for all of their efforts in helping Michelle in her valiant battle.
Michelle always said, “Friendships last longer than Flowers”, so make a new friend today. To honor this, in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been setup in Michelle Roth’s name at America First Credit Union to help the Roth family with expenses related to Michelle’s passing. Any extra funds after medical expenses and funeral expenses are covered will be donated to the Friend to Friend program in her name.
