Micky Arlan Crandall, loving husband of Jessie May Crandall, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015, in Bountiful, Utah.
Mick was born June 29, 1948 in Hoven, South Dakota, the oldest son of Francis "Mick" and Lillie Moench Crandall. Mick was the oldest of six children. He was an active young man who enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball and 7-man football. Mick and Jessie Kingsbury met in Rapid City, South Dakota and were married on December 28, 1971. They were later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple for time and all eternity. Mick and Jessie are the proud parents of five sons and a daughter. Mick and Jessie raised their family in Bountiful and Centerville, Utah, where Mick was very involved in church and civic service. Mick coached many sports teams for all of his boys and will long be remembered as a calm and patient coach. He rarely missed any sporting event of one of his boys and in recent years enjoyed attending his grandchildren's music, theater, and sporting events. Mick loved working with wood and making furniture for his family. He loved to be outdoors, walking Lucy and especially hiking to beautiful locations in Utah and Hawaii, and never missed an opportunity to hike his favorite, the Awaawapui Trail. Mick and Jessie loved to travel together and with friends. Mick loved The Gospel and served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including most recently as a full-time missionary with Jessie at the Visitors' Center at the Washington D.C. Temple. Mick's legacy of love and service will never be forgotten by his family and those who knew and loved him.
Mick was a National Merit Scholar and one of four top graduates from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. He won a scholarship to Northwestern University, where he earned his Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. His thesis was published and often quoted. He spent most of his career as the Program Director at the Wasatch Front Regional Council where he worked diligently to plan for Utah's future transportation needs, including making TRAX light rail and FrontRunner a reality in Utah. He also worked for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Horrocks Engineers, and UTA. He generously shared his knowledge with many he worked with during his career and as a professor at the University of Utah.
Mick is survived by his wife, Jessie May Crandall; five sons, Jason & Rebecca Crandall of Mapleton, Utah, Wade & Nicki Crandall of Centerville, Utah, Brent & Sayra Crandall of Little Rock, Arkansas, Dean & Maegan Crandall of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Ross & Joy Crandall of Farmington, Utah; grandchildren Alex, Abby, Josh, Jake, Maiah, Paige, Zoe, James, Lilly, Alice, Roxy, Kate, Jack, Sophie, and Andrew; siblings Pat Gower, Kay Crandall, Charyl & Ron Skates and Clay & Denise Crandall; and so many friends.
