M. Catherine Bang Cannon

M. Catherine Bang Cannon, Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on October 2, 2023, in Lehi, Utah, at the home of her son after a brief age-related illness. She was 89 years old. 

Catherine was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on February 19, 1934, to Christian Bang Jr. and Mildred Alta Reed. She was the oldest of five children and was loved dearly by her family.

Catherine met the love of her life, Sinclair Gilbert Cannon, while attending Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. They were married on July 8th, 1954, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They celebrated 61 beautiful years of marriage together until Gilbert’s death in 2016.

They lovingly raised a family of four children, including Kevin Reed (Lorna) Cannon, Kyle Gilbert (Julie) Cannon, Kathleen Dawn (Brent) Kohler, and Keith Loren Cannon. Catherine and Gilbert were grandparents of 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Grandma could always be counted on for special gifts and cards for all the grandchildren.

Catherine worked at Tina's Hallmark in Bountiful, Utah, for 35 years. She was 86 years old when she retired. She loved associating with people in her community and was a friend to many.

She served faithfully as a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Whether it was in Primary, Young Women’s, or Relief Society, she was always there to serve others. Her love and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel was a legacy for her family to cherish. Her love of the Savior was an example for us all. 

Catherine will always be remembered for her beautiful style, engaging smile, and kind and loving heart. Her family and friends enjoyed deep and lasting relationships with her. We will all miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sinclair Gilbert Cannon, her son Kyle Gilbert Cannon, and her brothers Christian III, Robert Alvin, James Richard and Charles Wesley Bang. She is survived by her brother Christian Bang and her three children.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah. A family viewing will be held Friday prior to the graveside service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main Street in Bountiful.
