Molly Orange Richardson died suddenly at home on Friday morning, May 8, likely of a sudden cardiac event. She was 41. She was a fierce soul with a tender heart. Admired and adored by many, she lived honestly and loved intensely. Among the many she loved are her wife Kate Taylor, her parents Malon and Myron, her brother Thomas and his wife Carrie Hertz, her “out-laws” Lyn and Russell Taylor, her cousin Tim Card, her dear god-daughter Abigail, and her pups, Shed and Ida. Farewell, Molly. Molly, who loved baseball. Molly, who loved good bourbon, and Toni Morrison, and African-American history. Molly, who always remembered the words of the song and the lines from the movie. Molly, who said, “When you start thinking you’re better ‘n someone, that is the exact minute you ain’t.” Molly, goodbye. Should you wish to donate in her honor, the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Utah Humane Society work for two causes important to her: social justice and care of animals. Molly wanted no formal funeral, so we will celebrate her life with an informal open house on Saturday, May 16, at the Richardson home from 3-6, otherwise just watch The Big Chill and raise a glass in her memory.
