Morris F. Swapp

Morris was born in Kanab, Utah, May 16, 1913 to Joseph Henry Swapp and Editha Farnsworth Swapp. He spent most of his youth in Provo, Utah. While working as a miner in California, he answered the call of duty for his country during WW II. He was a decorated soldier, serving five years in the infantry, seeing action in the Pacific and European Theatre. After the war he returned home to Provo and married his long time sweetheart, Afton McDonald. They are the parents of two children, Joan and Edward. Morris was a graduate of Brigham Young University. He taught elementary school in Manti, Utah, before moving to Bountiful, Utah, where he was an elementary school principal for 28 years. During his years as an administrator, he was elected as a Bountiful City Councilman, after which he served as mayor of Bountiful for 12 years. Upon retiring from education he was elected as a Davis County Commissioner. During his years as an educator, he also served in many callings for the LDS Church. After the passing of his wife Afton, Morris married June H. Sackett in August, 1988. One year later, they served a mission for the LDS Church in Tampa, FL. Preceding Morris in death are his wife Afton, wife June, daughter Joan, two brothers Frank and Harold, and three sisters Farris Jolley, Marva Gianola, Helen Sorensen. He is survived by one son, Edward and his wife Jayne of Denver Colorado, four grandsons, Ryan Jennifer, Richmond, VA; Thomas Ashley, Midway, UT; Gregory Darlene, Rexburg, ID, and Lance, currently serving a mission in Tokyo, Japan and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Sandra Whatcott Weston, Payson, Utah and seven stepchildren, Launa Jensen Fred, Kayleen Poulson, Paul Sackett Connie, Mark Sackett JoAnn, Annette Schwartz Tom, Cory Sackett Debbie, Layne Sackett Bonnie; 28 step-grandchildren, 40 step-great grandchildren. Morris was a sheepherder, miner, soldier, educator, administrator and wonderful father. He stood strong for what he believed and sacrificed much for those he loved. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main, where friends and family may call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Provo City Cemetery.
