Muriel I. Case

Our kind, gentle and caring mother, Muriel Irons Case peacefully passed from this life in the early morning hours of November 12, 2017, just shy of her 94th birthday. She was loved and admired by those who knew her.

From her earliest days, she understood that her life's calling was to serve as a nurse, which she did, untiringly, for over 40 years. She was the operating room supervisor at the South Davis County hospital, and later, at Lakeview hospital. If you had surgery in either place, chances are she was on the team that performed the operation. We remember her being on call on weekends and evenings, and countless times, leaving our home in the middle of the night to assist the doctors in the OR. She looked upon her calling and responsibility as an operating room nurse with complete dedication and commitment. It was one of her great passions and life's purpose.

Following her graduation from high school, she left her sheltered home in the rural farming community of Jerome, Idaho and made the journey, by train, to New York City where she attended nurse's training school and to be reacquainted with her mother. The two years she spent learning the skills of managing and assisting in the operating room, was one of the most challenging and important times of her life. After her return, she met and married Lynn H. Case in Ogden, Utah. Their union ended her plans to go to Saudi Arabia, where she had been hired to work for Aramco. They made their home in Bountiful, where she joined the LDS Church, faithfully served in her ward, and raised her family.

She is survived by her three sons, Kent, Craig (Marsha) and Mark (Mary Lynn), and step-son Dex Andrews, whom she tirelessly supported, encouraged and loved. She adored and treasured her 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was loved and respected by many nieces and nephews who stayed in contact with her throughout her life.

She met many challenges of life with good humor, faith, integrity, hard work, constant optimism and kindness, giving everyone the benefit of the doubt.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn, her beloved father William David Irons and her younger brothers, Kenneth, Willie and Alvin, as well as her mother Teresa Connolly, of New York City, and grandsons, Vance Coburn and Aiden Case.

Her viewing and funeral services will take place at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street in Bountiful, Utah. The viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 17, and one-hour before the funeral that will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 18.
