Newell Kent Hogan passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018, in the presence of loved ones in Bountiful, Utah. He was born on April 28, 1933, in Baker, Oregon, to Ervin and Chrystell (Bodily) Hogan. His family moved to Bend, Oregon, when he was nine years old. He later graduated from Bend Senior High School and then spent a year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Upon returning from two years of service as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, he met and fell in love with Rozanne Cannon, the younger sister of one of his missionary companions. They were married in the Logan, Utah, temple a year later. Kent received a degree in dentistry from the University of Oregon, afterwards serving for two years as a dentist in the Air Force at the Oxnard Air Force Base in Camarillo, California. He practiced dentistry in White City, Oregon, and then in Orange, California, before moving his dental practice to Bend, Oregon, where the business continued for almost 25 years. As an active member of the Church Kent freely donated thousands of hours in various capacities including stake president, bishop and patriarch. Upon retiring he and Rozanne served together as missionaries in the Cove Fort, Utah, Church historical site then in the Patriarchal Blessings office of the Church Family History Department in Salt Lake City. Kent loved taking photographs, buying and maintaining cars, collecting cameras, hiking and fishing in the outdoors, and studying the doctrines of the gospel. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Ervin Hogan. He is survived by his wife Rozanne; his nine children and their spouses, including Suzanne and Mike Mosman, Paula Hogan, David and Shauntel (Christensen) Hogan, Kristine and Kenton Olmstead, Ann and Perry Shumway, Steven and Rebecca (Rich) Hogan, Sarah and Paul Davis, Matthew and Emily (Persico) Hogan, and Rebecca and Matt Randall; and his 51 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. There will be a public viewing on Monday, August 6, 2018, at the LDS chapel located at 925 Deseret Drive, Kaysville, Utah, 84037, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM in the chapel, followed by a graveside service at the Bountiful City Cemetery in Bountiful, Utah. Memories and tributes may be sent to stevenchogan@gmail.com.
