Two months ago, we had no idea that both our parents would not be with us for Christmas. Naida Anne Black Hill (86) of Kaysville, Utah, passed away at 12:22 am on Monday morning in her home, solemnly surrounded by her children and family, after complications from heart failure, sometimes referred to as Broken Heart Syndrome — in the same room that her beloved Jimmy passed away less than ten weeks prior.
Naida was born on Easter Sunday March 27, 1932 in Tooele, Utah to Elmer Black and Ethel Simpson. She graduated from Tooele High in 1950, and enrolled at BYU, where she eventually met and married Jimmy King Hill, her Student Body Secretary campaign manager, in 1955 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They moved to California where they lived for ten years and where all four children were born. They returned to Utah in 1965 and lived in Bountiful for over forty years. In 2006, they settled in Kaysville, Utah, for their remaining twelve years, to be near their children.
Naida was adored by everyone she touched. She had a deep passion for genealogy work, hosting formal dinner parties, gardening, making puzzles, and decorating for Christmas. She was an avid reader and loved classic films and literature. As an Anglophile, she was able to eventually visit England, on two occasions, with her dear friends from Tooele and later with her granddaughter Torrey. She worked at Industrial Container for 25 years, during which time she also enjoyed a 16-year Bountiful Temple assignment.
Naida was preceded in death by her older brother Don (wife Sammy, her college roommate) — and survived by her four kids Mitch (Debbie), Steph Hagen (Butch), Pat (Diane), Tom (Jill), and her younger brother Alan (Barbara), along with 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held on Thursday December 20th at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street in Farmington, Utah 84025 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday December 21th at the Kaysville Main Street chapel on 500 South Main Street from 11 am to 12 pm. A viewing will be held prior to that service from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 East Crestwood Road.
The Hill children wish to express deep gratitude to South Davis Home Health and Caigen Stuart, Naida’s caregiver of two years. Special thanks go to friends, neighbors and members of the Columbia Heights ward, who personified the true meaning of “ministering” — yet again.
