Nathan Plummer

Taps has sounded for another of America's greatest generation service man. Capt. Nathan Smith Plummer passed away peacefully in his home in North Salt Lake, Utah on March 5, 2012 where he had been lovingly cared for by his family. He was born August 20, 1921 in Portland Oregon to Spencer David and Lelah Belle O'Herran Plummer. He married Clenna June Hansen on September 8, 1947 and they were sealed June 27, 1988 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1939 and served his first 2 years in China. In 1941 he was transferred to Guam and was there at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. Guam was also attack at the same time and he was taken prisoner by the Japanese on December 10, 1941. He spent the next 4 years in Japan as a Prisoner of War. His military service includes serving as a China Marine from 1939-1941, WWII POW, Korean War and served under McArthur in the rebuilding of Japan. He served in the Marine Corp from 1939-1957 and transferred to the Army Signal Corp and served from 1957-1963 and then retired. He graduated from Utah State University in Logan Utah in 1965. He taught at Bountiful High School retiring after 19 years. He built many homes with students in Bountiful, Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution organization, serving as State Chaplain.
Nathan and Clenna June have 5 children, S. David (Debby) Plummer, Diana (Gary) Thomson, Doreen (David) Furlong, Nick (Jackie) Plummer, Cheriene (David) Jones; 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers 1 sister and one Grandson David Paul Furlong Jr. The family would like to thank his Hospice nurse Emily Hodson and his personal physician Dr. Phillip Kithis at the VA Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Orchard 3rd Ward Building, 261 East Center Street in North Salt Lake, Utah. Friends and family may visit Thursday, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Bountiful, Utah or Friday 9:45 to 10:45 at the church. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery with full military honors.
