“Together Again”
Our beloved partriarch Ned Lamar Rushton, Sr., 98, entered the eternal world on July 6, 2016. Ned was born June 28, 1918 in Logandale, Nevada to Frederick John and Mable Lydia (Leavitt) Rushton. His father’s first wife, Annie Mattinson had passed away leaving their seven children. He married Mable and they had ten more children. Ned was the tenth of seventeen children, 13 of them boys. The family moved to Delta, UT area in 1924 and then to Montana in 1934. Ned loved to break horses. After he and five brothers served in WWII, he married Dora Mae Foxall in the Alberta Canada LDS Temple, February 12, 1946. They settled on Montana farms near Vaughn, teaching values and principles of farm life to their eight children, leading daily discussions of the importance of education, missions, and temple marriages. He also was an Anaconda copper mill worker, a storekeeper, and a butcher. Dad was a father – valuing his family and the Savior above all. He was a stand up guy, speaking up for what he thought was right while keeping you as his friend. He never met a stranger.
After their mission to Roanoke, Virginia in 1981, they moved to Santaquin, Utah to be close to their grandchildren, moving to Bountiful, Utah in 1992. Active in many church responsibilities, including choir, scouting, missionary, temple and the church hog project.
He is so happy to go home to his parents; wife, Mae (1923-2010); son, Don Leavitt Rushton (1958-1979); grandson, Gregory Neal Scholes; great-grandson, Joshua Williams; and 15 siblings. His only surviving sibling is Mary (Leon) Inman, 84, of Shelley, Idaho.
Surviving children are Linda (Jack) Shirts, Ned, Jr. (Beverly), David (Georgia), Ruth (Don) Andrus, Boyd (Lynette), Lydia (Greg) Scholes, Lisa (Kelly) Driesel; 32 of 33 grandchildren; 94 of 95 great-grandchildren, with 4 more in the oven; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
We thank the friends at Bountiful Senior Center for years of joy and association, and the staffs of Legacy House, Heritage Center, North Canyon Center, Applegate Home Health, Bristol Hospice and the VA Center for their patience, care and kindness.
