Neil Charles Roosendaal, dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at his home in Farmington, Utah from complications of Lewy Body Dementia with loved ones at his bedside. He was the third of three sons born to Ruth Mae Woodford and Walter Frank Van Roosendaal on June 5, 1940. Neil never had the chance to know his father, who passed away when Neil was just 4 months old.
Neil enlisted in the Army during his early life where he learned the lessons of discipline and hard work. He was an excellent craftsman, even building a log cabin home in Midway, Utah, where he and Judy spent many happy years. He was always a hard worker, meeting the needs of his growing family, a trait he passed on to his children teaching them the value and satisfaction of a job well done.
Neil and Judy were married on July 30, 1992, in the Salt Lake Temple after a five-year courtship. They have lived in Bountiful, Midway, Toquerville and now Farmington Utah. They served a Mission in Nauvoo, IL. in 2007 and 2008 where they fit right in, with old fashion ways and old-fashioned clothes. Neil’s favorite calling was being The Grandpa in Primary with Nanna Rosey. They shared the adventure of restoring old homes and being together at home was their favorite way to spend their time.
Neil leaves behind four children born to him and Phyllis Balfour Roosendaal: Tonya (Gene) Nagaishi; Monty Neil (Stephanie) Roosendaal, Leslie (Chet) Hailstone; Quinn (Lisa) Roosendaal, as well as Judy’s five children: Brandon (Genae) O’Brien, Jeremy (Dawn) O’Brien; Dustin (Deana) O’Brien, Shannon (Derek) Howells, and Colby (Michelle) O’Brien, 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two older brothers, Dean Walter and Leon Ray. He leaves behind his loving and caring wife, Judy Lynn Roosendaal, who has always been by his side through thick and thin. We are grateful for the love he offered freely to all of us. He will be missed for his courage to endure, faith, friendship, sense of humor, and his talent for telling a good story.
Our gratitude to Dr. Alex Nelson, Desiree Hammer and staff, Dr. Stanton McDonald and the wisdom of Dr. W. Roy Van Orman, Dr. Gerald Hayward, and Jeannie Ranck as well as Utah Home Health and Hospice who worked with the family through this transition.
