Neil Clare Breinholt of West Bountiful, returned to his heavenly home on Monday, November 9th, 2015 at the age of 64. He died at the wheel of his tractor, a place he loved to be. He survived more than a few close calls with death due to heart disease, construction accidents, bone marrow donation, and spider bites giving us extra years together for which we are grateful.
Neil, the oldest of five children, was born on July 14, 1951 in Murray, Utah to Clare and Cleo (Pond) Breinholt. He grew up in North Salt Lake and was part of the first graduating class of Viewmont High. After high school he hitchhiked around Europe as a hippie, an experience that was the basis for his personal conversion. From 1971-73 he served an LDS mission in France and Belgium. He chose to marry the beautiful Jill Susan Jackson in the Salt Lake Temple on November 21, 1973. Together they have 5 children.
Construction was his lifelong profession. He was a successful builder, handyman, and businessman. Following in his father's footsteps he built many homes, apartments, storage units, and condos in the Bountiful area. He is known as a mild mannered, compassionate, and friendly landlord at Clarelon Apartments.
As member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he had a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, the Prophet Joseph Smith, and the Book of Mormon. He gave of himself spiritually, physically, and temporally because of his love for Jesus Christ. Neil was a lifelong scouter committed to the scouting program because he believed it was a tool to develop character in boys and young men. He took his scouts on many adventures and taught them life lessons including respect for women. He had many hobbies and interests including camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, storytelling, music, and animals, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Neil follows and contributes to a family legacy of faith, hard work, service, and patriotism. He spent his life regularly working to keep immediate and extended family connected and bonded forever. He was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend who is loved beyond measure. He will be remembered as a loving, strong, tender, adventurous, kindhearted, generous, and selfless man who was always willing to help those in need. Heaven rejoiced to receive him.
Neil is survived by his wife Jill Breinholt, his five children, Isa Perry (Clark), Callie Hoth (Wes), Rustin Breinholt, Lacy Breinholt (Joe Leong) and Chase Breinholt (Melyssa). His four grandchildren, Kainoa, Teonna, Berlin, and Haven. His brother Alden Breinholt and sister Barbara Palmer. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and Cleo Breinholt and brother and sister Ronald Breinholt and Joyce Pakradounian.
We request that Neil's current and former scouts and fellow scout leaders attending the services wear their scout uniforms. In lieu of flowers please donate to the breast cancer charity of your choice in support Callie's current fight with the disease.
