Nelda Lee White Christensen, 94, passed away peacefully January 14, 2017. She was born May 20, 1922 in Darbun, Mississippi to George Gordon White and Minnie Anna Ballard. Nelda was a good student and very athletic. She graduated from Columbia High School. After her brother was killed on the U.S.S. Arizona, She left Mississippi to help with the war effort in Kansas City, Missouri. There she met and married her husband, Hugh W. Christensen on May 26, 1943. They were sealed the Logan LDS Temple. Hugh had just finished dental school and was entering the Army. They lived in several locations from Illinois to California. After the war, they settled in SLC and later built their first home in Bountiful where they spent the rest of their lives together. She was blessed with 7 children, 28 grandchildren and 69 great grandchildren.
Nelda was faithful the LDS church her entire life. She served in many positions in the different organizations and served a mission with her husband to Jackson, Mississippi. Nelda was intelligent, quick-witted and a delight to be around. Her humor and her skills were amazing. She could do anything! We will dearly miss her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh W. Christensen and her son, David G. Christensen. She is survived by her children (Peggy) Christensen of West Valley, UT; Dale (Brent Guernsey) Christensen of Taylorsville, UT; Don (Cheri) Christensen of Snohomish, Washington; Dean (Sandy) Christensen of Bountiful, UT; Janet (Scott) Lunt of Pocatello, ID; Ruby (Marcus) Lunt of Orem, UT; Dwight (Kris) Bountiful, UT; and her brother, Edwin White of Columbia, Mississippi.
There will be a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the LDS Church, 1450 North 300 West, Bountiful, UT on Saturday, January 21, 2017. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
