Nellie Shaffer Howell

Nellie Shaffer Hendrickson Howell (75) returned home to our Heavenly Father on December 5, 2012, in Dayton, Idaho. Nellie has enjoyed living with family the last six years while struggling with dementia. Nellie was born in Preston, Idaho, to Virgil Fremont & Edith Shaffer Hendrickson on February 25, 1937, being the youngest of five children. Nellie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Nellie held many callings including serving a mission in Scotland with her loving husband Boyd. Nellie graduated from the LDS Hospital, School of Nursing in Idaho Falls in 1958 along with a life long friend Maureen Hodges. Although they were born and raised not forty miles from each other, Nellie traveled to Switzerland to meet the love of her life George Boyd Howell . Nellie and George “Boyd” were married in the Logan Temple in 1960 and she then had an instant family including Judy and Darrel from Boyd’s previous marriage.
Nellie is survived by her brothers: Donald Hendrickson, Iver (Eileen) Hendrickson, and Edwin (JoAnn) Hendrickson; her son Darrel (Jessica) Howell; son-in-law, Greg Cook; grandchildren; great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband (George Boyd Howell), her daughter (Judy Cook), her parents (Virgil & Edith Hendrickson), her sister and spouse (Afton & Vernal Bowden), a sister-in-law (Verla Hendrickson), and a nephew (Edwin Kay Bowden).
We invite family and friends to celebrate Nellie’s life at the Funeral Services to be held on Friday, December 21, 2012, at 1:00 pm at the Russon Bros. Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held from 11:45-12:45am on Friday prior to the funeral service.
